Daniel Clifton is a Partner and Head of Policy Research for Strategas Research Partners. In this capacity, Mr. Clifton evaluates government policies impact on the global economy, stocks, and bond markets for institutional investors. Clifton also oversees the firm's policy-related stock portfolios, including the widely watched Strategas Policy Opportunities Portfolio, which has doubled the S&P 500 over the past 10 years. Clifton and his team have been recognized by Institutional Investor magazine in their annual survey of best Wall Street analysts for the past seven years. Clifton's research on the interaction between legislation, policy and equity markets is often cited in the media and he is frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business News.
Prior to joining Strategas, Clifton had a long record of government, campaign, and advocacy service. Previously, he was Executive Director of the American Shareholders Association (ASA), a non-partisan, non-profit organization which advocates public policies helping shareholders. In this capacity, Clifton was part of the successful efforts to reform the nation's pension system, lower capital gains and dividend tax rates to 15 percent, and a repatriation tax holiday on foreign source revenue. Prior to joining ASA, Clifton was Federal Affairs Manager for Americans for Tax Reform where he worked on every major tax bill moving in Congress in the past decade.
Clifton's government experience includes working as a senior staff member in two gubernatorial administrations as well as a number of state agencies focused on economic and fiscal policy. Additionally, he worked in various capacities on elections at federal, state, and local levels and he has helped to elect a number of current elected officials.
Clifton received both his BA in Urban Planning and his MS in Public Policy from Rutgers University where he was a Fellow at the Eagleton Institute of Politics and a Harold Martin Fellow for Public Policy.
