The request can be made when you register or any time prior to the conference. If you request the discount at the time of registration it can be taken off the charge at that time. If the request is made after payment has been processed, accounting will need to do a refund. CFA Chicago members should fax registrations to CFA Institute in order to get this discount up-front.
